His work has repeatedly fascinated the fashion world. For many years, international stars have worn David Koma's dresses on the big stages and red carpets. His collections never lose their relevance and reach new heights.
Despite the international recognition, David Koma keeps close ties with Georgia. The project that has marked his artwork at the end of 2022 is a continuation of this bond. The legendary Georgian mineral water, Borjomi, also has a history of new collaboration. With the collaboration of David Koma, a new packaging of a limited edition can of Borjomi was created exclusively for Georgia, which has already appeared on the shelves.
David Koma himself describes the details of the collaboration:
- In what way does your heritage come through in your work?
Many things I create are inspired by the place where I was born and grew up. I became passionate about painting while being in Georgia.
The environment where I grew up became the beginning of my creative path. I was influenced by the diverse nature of Georgia and its culture.
Years ago, I dedicated one of my first collections to the country where I was born, however, I think its influence will always be felt in my work. I have always loved and love this country. My origin combined with a global mindset and broad vision helped shape my career in various directions.
- To you, what does DAVID KOMA the brand have in common with BORJOMI the brand? What drew you into this collaboration?
Borjomi and Georgia are already inseparable. Georgians, no matter where we are and no matter what we create, we always think that our work, along with modern challenges, should reflect our identity - where we come from. Although I live abroad, I am a proud Georgian. I consider this cooperation as a special opportunity to return back to my roots. It's also a challenge to contribute designing of a historical product that I have loved for many years.
- What was the inspiration behind the packaging concept?
History of Georgia, folklore and culture have always been a source of my inspiration. This time, the inspiration is the royal jewelry of King Tamar. I often feature crystallized elements in my work, so I thought it would be a natural direction in this case. I also heard a legend about a deer who discovered the unique Borjomi water. Therefore, I kept this story in the packaging. Along with the integral symbol of the brand, I used the Georgian green color in the design, which is so abundant in Georgia - even the green forests that reflect the water."
- Can a can of sparkling water be a fashion accessory?
Of course! The goal is to make the product collectible as a piece of art. You will really distinguish Borjomi in store shelves - with its special design, metallic elements, not to even mention its unique taste and healing properties.
